Art Institutes' LogoI made it through my first week of culinary school alive and it has been a blast so far. I choose the International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Seattle because a Pastry Baker/Instructor friend of mine, who went to the CIA, said The Art Institutes program seemed to resemble the CIA best for the schools I was researching. One should bear in mind though, I would have sold my soul to go to the CIA, but the whole family wouldn't go for moving to Hyde Park, NY or Napa Valley, CA for a couple years - crazy they are. :)

And the Winner is . . . . .

Ahhhh, foodie club. Food club. Let's get together and eat club. It had been far too long since Hubby and I were able to make it to one of these events. Far too long since we saw our friends who sometimes throw these events. And FAR TOO LONG since I had felt quite this challenged in the kitchen!

What happens when Christopher Kimball of America’s Test Kitchen attempts to recreate a twelve-course meal from Fannie Farmer’s classic 1896 cookbook? Magic!

On December 1, 2010, I attended a lecture given by Christopher Kimball for his new book "Fannie’s Last Supper" published by Hyperion Books, at Third Place Books in Lake Forest Park, Washington.

The story of my preparation of these short ribs is of epic proportion (at least it was epic in my mind). This is the first time I can think of deciding I was going to make something (I had it on my list of things I wanted to try making, I found this AWESOME recipe from Ree Drummond, I had enough time on a Saturday to actually make it happen) and then becoming plain obsessed with making it.

I love Heidi Swanson’s blog and actually considered stealing some take on the name (as I have a bazillion cookbooks myself) for my own blog. I tracked down this recipe after finding some beautiful chard at the Lake Forest Park Farmers Market. To say this recipe is delicious does not do it justice. I think the best way to describe it would be to say that my husband Tom liked it, and he DOES NOT eat leafy, green vegetables. Go check out the recipe for Garlicky Greens and come back here for my take on it (and check out Heidi’s wonderful site while you’re there).
